The Crushing Power of YouTube

It’s amazing to think that YouTube has only been around since February 2005.  Now, people are watching 2 billion videos a day on YouTube and uploading hundreds of thousands of videos daily — 35 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute.

I’ve mentioned before that it is now the second largest search engine (only behind its parent company and mega-engine, Google). This performance is amazing.

And, I think we are going to continue to see it’s growth and dominance because of the focus this tool puts on the user. That’s right, the user. For example, to monetize the site, YouTube has to sell advertising. But, they keep the user in mind and have launched a new advertising program called TrueView that allows the viewer the choice of how to view an advertisement or whether to view it at all.  The company sells the concept to advertisers as a way to only pay for ads which are actually watched versus measured as an “impression”.
