Use Google Places to Get your Business Noticed

Knowing how to reach your customers is not so daunting if you simply remember that you are a customer yourself.

Case in point, how many times have you been on your phone or in front of your computer and you looked up a business location or address on Google?  Of course you have, most people look up business info online. Yellow Pages? White Pages? Really?

The fact is you need to have your business listed on Google. Chances are you might already be listed so check first on Google.com and Google Maps. Then go to Google Places to verify your listing. You’ll have to create a Google Account, but it’s easy, free and unlocks a number of other valuable Google tools.

Even if you don’t have a website, you’ll find this to be a very effective way to get your business noticed.  Google loves local searches and I’ve seen a number of businesses that are easily found this way, even though they do not have a website.

You can also add premium options for free: photos, videos, adding categories, coupons, and info like parking and the brands you sell.  

I’ve seen one example of a San Francisco ice cream shop that forgoes all other online marketing efforts for just a Google Places page.  Google Places even has an option for you to see how many people have seen and clicked on your listing.

This should be a no-brainer and is a top priority for any business owner or digital marketing manager.
